the last sin
  pale ashen sky
a bleary eye
clouds of recurring screams...
i am a zoo
  an octopus leviathan
tentacles into an ocean
of unformed emotions...
syphilis and love
  syphilitic pall
stifles the clear blue
i contort...

shell and pearl
  amidst highs and lows
in life's ocean flows
a shell peony-mouthed...

i am an unmarried mother

  fed on stings
of barbed milk morality
my child-plankton...

the lovers
  cell upon cell
bridge of their union
hung on the pillars...
rebirth
  ogre of age
and time cavil
at a warm picture...
the young today
  innocence thaws
at the altar
of ambition...

midnight knock

tic tack toe
pussy tiptoes to the door
a shadow looms large
winds howl
it’s fall
silver leaves rustle eerily
there’s a knock on the door
it’s midnight
a silhouette glides across
furtive and unsure
the knock ebbs and returns
outside rain drops
drip drip drip
on a rusty tin roof
tip tip tip
he goes to the kitchen
opens a drawer
out tumble memories
cards on the dining table
shuffle and open to a jack
orange and pale in colour
there’s a knock on the door
that refuses to go away
the phone rings
tring tring tring
startles him
can we have the phones
off the hook please

there’s a knock on the door
in the midnight of day
that refuses to go away
tic tack toe
pussy tiptoes to the door
a shadow looms large
