the last sin
  pale ashen sky
a bleary eye
clouds of recurring screams...
i am a zoo
  an octopus leviathan
tentacles into an ocean
of unformed emotions...
syphilis and love
  syphilitic pall
stifles the clear blue
i contort...
shell and pearl
  amidst highs and lows
in life's ocean flows
a shell peony-mouthed...
i am an unmarried mother
  fed on stings
of barbed milk morality
my child-plankton...
the lovers
  cell upon cell
bridge of their union
hung on the pillars...
  ogre of age
and time cavil
at a warm picture...
the young today
  innocence thaws
at the altar
of ambition...

poetry as prayer

hey you the diva of free verse
dressed in white flannels
and a graceful mauve top
with long silken frills at the edges
that flow with the bend of air
and kiss the earth
hey you the goddess of emotion
and empathy captured
in word-pictures that paint
myriad mindscapes
with undulating terrains
and mercurial weather
i turn to you for freedom
as i sculpt alphabets into words
verse into escape routes
and conjure images that haunt
and heal at the same time
it’s but a ploy
to get your attention
to seek refuge
in your benign presence
to merge my tormented atman
with your elevating brahman
it’s at your altar i break
coconuts when dusk meets dawn
and peacocks dance
as my egg-shell mind
seeks release

hey you will you
deliver me
