the last sin
  pale ashen sky
a bleary eye
clouds of recurring screams...
i am a zoo
  an octopus leviathan
tentacles into an ocean
of unformed emotions...
syphilis and love
  syphilitic pall
stifles the clear blue
i contort...

shell and pearl
  amidst highs and lows
in life's ocean flows
a shell peony-mouthed...

i am an unmarried mother

  fed on stings
of barbed milk morality
my child-plankton...

the lovers
  cell upon cell
bridge of their union
hung on the pillars...
rebirth
  ogre of age
and time cavil
at a warm picture...
the young today
  innocence thaws
at the altar
of ambition...

last night he made his daughter cry

last night he made his daughter cry
thirteen year old she has sunshine
in her natural curls he tried to snuff it
put on it a dark cloak of his obsessions
she tried to reason
but a child is no match to an irrational adult

tears of a resilient child
dependent on the whims
of a part-time neurotic grappling
with his failings
it wasn’t her fault
she had acted honourably
and he was proud of her
last night he made his daughter cry
thirteen year old she has bounce
in her walk he tried to bind it
put on it a dark cloak of his obsessions

deep down he knew she was right
and his anger was a cry for help
but as an adult how could
he let her know that his feet
were made of clay
so he kept on upping the ante
until it dawned on him
for God’s sake she was just a child
how could he expect her to deal
with his inner turmoil
last night he made his daughter cry
thirteen year old she has stars
in her light brown eyes he tried to steal them
put on them a dark cloak of his obsessions

in the morning he went to her room
sorry darling please forgive me he said
forget it dad it’s ok she said
tears well in his eyes
as he punches these lines

please forgive me my child
