the last sin
  pale ashen sky
a bleary eye
clouds of recurring screams...
i am a zoo
  an octopus leviathan
tentacles into an ocean
of unformed emotions...
syphilis and love
  syphilitic pall
stifles the clear blue
i contort...
shell and pearl
  amidst highs and lows
in life's ocean flows
a shell peony-mouthed...
i am an unmarried mother
  fed on stings
of barbed milk morality
my child-plankton...
the lovers
  cell upon cell
bridge of their union
hung on the pillars...
  ogre of age
and time cavil
at a warm picture...
the young today
  innocence thaws
at the altar
of ambition...

beauty and beast

Eli Siegel american poet and critic
talked of beauty as ‘making one of opposites’
yin and yang in complicity
dusk and dawn in a tango
power and tenderness in synchronicity

there’s some truth
in this concept of aesthetic realism
i think of Shiva’s avatar of ardhnarishwar
duality of sexes converging to form a perfect man
opposites that we so often battle
make us whole
even Hegel talked of ‘dialectical movement’
evolution through contradictions
of double reality
tonight as i sit trying to re-establish the connect
with my other self
i think of Picasso's 1935 allegory
the Minotauromachy
the centaur the satyr the Minotaur
oneness of man and bull
coalescing together of the plurality
of the opposing forces
an all consuming oneness
at once heavy at once light
that binds and frees at the same time

art marrying life
violence cohabiting with peace
terror befriending compassion
contempt hobnobbing with respect

i suspect Picasso’s Minotaur
desires to be less absolute and more human
and doesn’t see any constricting divide
between man and bull
after all the Minotaur is everyman

afterthought: isn’t the greatest act of all
the act of lovemaking

consummate in its most violent form?
